2027 Pedagogical Section Class Teacher and High School Intensives at the Newcastle Waldorf School
Welcome to the 2027 Intensives!
You can register for the whole conference in the hall foyer between 2.30pm and 5pm on Sunday as well as Monday 7-8.30am. Registration is mandatory as the school requires all attendees to sign the site safety form.
Sunday Intro (no charge) you have the opportunity to attend the Sunday Introduction sessions from 12.30-2.30 with Andrew Hill and 3-5 with Diane Tatum. They have worked on new approaches with practical engagement that will give new teachers a clear context for the week and deepened pictures of the pedagogy,
Sunday Introduction Sessions Andrew Hill/Diane Tatum
We recommend that all teachers who are new or who have not yet had a Steiner teacher training attend these sessions in the hall. It is most important for Class 1 teachers who have not taken a class through.
Andrew Hill – 12.30-2.30pm Hall
The structure of the day, the threefold rhythm
What is a Main Lesson? – What does a Main Lesson morning look like?
What is morning circle? The importance of oral language work.
The importance of rhythms of in and outbreathing and of the day.
Why do we tell stories (and a demonstration of a story told)
Teaching from the whole to the parts.
The inner life of the teacher.
Diane Tatum – 3-5pm Hall
The 3- and 4-fold human being and how that relates to teaching at different ages.
Experiencing the 3- and 4-fold human being in movement.
Exploring classroom management gifts. Importance of inner work.Taking hold of the space of the classroom.
Use of gesture, voice and silence.
What is eurythmy?
Monday morning- Registration 7am and early start 8.30am
Please complete registration and signing of the safety information between 7am and 8.25am on Monday at the tables in the hall foyer and just outside. We will begin the first day at 8.30 with the Welcome to Country and then meet in the hall at 9am for singing and the lecture from 9.30am.
Hall space limit
The hall holds 230 and has air conditioning.
Eurythmy 7.45–8.20am Tuesday to Friday
Diane Tatum will again be offering an early morning eurythmy session on the grass below the hall in the shade before the morning singing.
Bothmer Gym Sunday 12.30-2.30
This is an introductory Session during which you can experience an overview of Bothmer Gymnastics. Katherine Ellis will be offering a session on Monday evening with the Games curriculum and snacks provided for those staying.
Special Individual Sessions available to be booked free of charge.
Sign up sheets will be in the hall foyer.
Lisa Devine will be present and will have timeslots available for private well-being consultation for teachers.
Barbara Baldwin will also be at the Intensive and will offer individual and small group (2-3 people) consultations on teaching students with additional needs.
Judith Klingan will again be in attendance and will offer individual singing, music notation or instrumental tuition in one of the small music rooms near the primary classrooms.

Once registered for the intensives participants can go to the Pedagogical Section website for the brochure, live timetables Classes 1-7, High School, Handwork, Visual Arts and Eurythmy/Music as well as the Welcome Letter and the resources. The link, log in and password will be provided in the booking confirmation and email to all participants.

There are separate timetables on the above link for each of classes 1-7, Visual Arts Intensive, Music and Eurythmy Intensive and also the High School brochure which has a two subject stream timetables included.
Resources are also available on the website and are still being updated.
These are for all classes 1-7, 8-12 and for Additional Needs and for Handwork as well as many other specialist subjects/areas. Please print off those you will need during the week such as music repertoire for your class.
Seating Hall chairs
Please help with hall chair set up after singing or after or before your eurythmy sessions when the lecture mode is needed. Many hands make light work.
Room Chairs
All rooms have chairs for the enrolled teachers plus several for those teaching composite/mixed classes. If you are moving freely around many groups, you may need to source a chair.
Evening Sessions
On Tuesday evening there will be a longer eurythmy/festival session for class 6 and above. A rehearsal of a festival event such as the mid-winter candle spiral, labyrinth or a play from 7-8.30 and then a mini-festival from 8.30-9pm.
Wednesday evening many people go straight to the beach at 5.30pm for a private dinner and a swim.
Thursday evening will again be joyful and performance based, with Paul’s choir and eurythmy from Diane. It will feature special guests and is not to be missed! Please let us know if you have a contribution.
Accommodation
Registration for pre-booked accommodation can be completed from 2pm Sunday until 5pm. This is in shared classrooms bringing your own bedding. A special site safety accommodation form will need to be completed. There will be no on-site camping. First Aid and Lost Property
First Aid officers are in attendance in the office and can be reached by asking any tutor.
Lost property will be kept up in the office in the admin cottage as you drive in. There is an open window as you walk up onto the verandah.
Information
For Information during the week there will be someone both in the hall or hall foyer early in the morning until 9am and up in the office each day.
Rudolf Steiner Book Centre
The Rudolf Steiner Book Centre will be in the primary classroom labelled Turtle on the map, from Monday-Thursday.
Catering
We will have wonderful meals provided which are vegetarian with gluten free and vegan options. There is afternoon tea on Sunday, but we do finish at 3.20pm on Friday so there is no afternoon tea.
Please keep the two gates (near the hall and high school) closed to the lower grass areas to keep the sheep in.
